New York
New York is a home rule state with nearly 1550 jurisdictions, many with their own process for installing solar in their municipality. The solar installer, or contractor, is responsible for submitting all the documents associated with installing solar and will work with you to complete the paperwork. The cost of installing solar includes the 'hard costs' of equipment such as the panels and inverters, and the 'soft costs' such as permitting, zoning, interconnection, financing options, customer education and acquisition. While the overall costs of installing solar continues to decline, the 'soft costs' account for over 50% of the cost of an installation. Sustainable CUNY works to reduce these costs and is supported by Federal, State and City initiatives.
